There’s something undeniably luxurious about slipping into a hot tub for some well-deserved relaxation. However, before you get in, it’s important to ensure you’ve taken care of a few essential pre-hot tub rituals. From hygiene to safety measures, here’s a comprehensive guide of things to do before getting in the hot tub.

Shower

Showering before dipping into a hot tub is not just a matter of common courtesy, but it’s also crucial for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the water. Our bodies naturally carry oils, dirt, and bacteria, which can quickly accumulate in the hot tub water, leading to unpleasant odors and potential health hazards. By taking a quick shower beforehand, you can rinse off these contaminants, ensuring that you enter the hot tub with a clean slate. Not only does this practice contribute to a more enjoyable and relaxing experience for everyone, but it also helps to prolong the lifespan of the hot tub’s filtration system, saving you time and money on maintenance in the long run.

Hydrate

Hydration is key before soaking in hot water. As your body absorbs the heat from the water, it naturally increases perspiration, leading to fluid loss and potential dehydration. By drinking water beforehand, you can help offset this loss and ensure that your body remains adequately hydrated throughout your hot tub session. Proper hydration not only helps regulate your body temperature but also promotes circulation and aids in the elimination of toxins, enhancing the overall therapeutic effects of the hot tub experience.

Prepare a Tasty Treat

Preparing a snack and drink before sinking into your hot tub can level up your relaxation experience! After a dip in the spa, your body may crave replenishment and nourishment. Having a snack readily available allows you to satisfy those post-soak hunger pangs without having to leave the comfort of the hot tub. Pick some refreshing snacks such as fruits, veggies, and nuts, or bring out your favorite snacks. Food makes everything better.

Check the Water Temperature

Before getting in, check the water temperature to ensure it’s within a safe and comfortable range. Hot tubs are designed to provide relaxation and therapeutic benefits, but if the water temperature is too high, it can pose risks such as burns, overheating, and dehydration. Conversely, if the water is too cold, it may not deliver the desired therapeutic effects or could cause discomfort. By taking a moment to verify the water temperature before getting in, you can adjust it to a comfortable level that suits your preferences and avoids any potential hazards. Typically, people try to heat their hot tub between 100°F to 104°F (37°C to 40°C).

This simple precaution helps to promote relaxation, reduces the likelihood of accidents, and allows you to fully enjoy the soothing benefits of your hot tub.

Test the Water Chemistry

Person testing their hot tub's water chemistry with water care test strip.

Use a test strip to check the hot tub water’s pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels. Proper water chemistry ensures that the water is balanced, free from harmful contaminants, and safe for soaking. Imbalanced water chemistry can lead to skin irritation, bacterial growth, and even damage to the hot tub equipment. By regularly testing the water for pH levels, sanitizer concentration, and other chemical balances, you can maintain a clean and healthy environment. This proactive approach not only enhances your hot tub experience by promoting comfort and well-being but also minimizes the need for extensive maintenance and repairs down the line. Prioritizing water chemistry testing is a small investment of time that yields significant rewards in terms of safety, enjoyment, and the longevity of your hot tub investment.

Remove Debris

Leaves, insects, dirt, and other debris can accumulate on the surface of the water and in the tub’s filtration system, potentially leading to clogs and affecting water quality. Take a moment to skim the surface and remove any visible debris. Not only does this practice contribute to a more hygienic environment, but it also helps to prolong the lifespan of the hot tub’s equipment and reduces the need for frequent maintenance.

Set the Mood

A Series Hot Tub Lighting

Creating the right ambiance with soft lighting, soothing music, and perhaps even some aromatic candles or essential oils. By taking the time to set the mood, you can cultivate a serene environment that allows you to fully unwind and escape the stresses of daily life. Some hot tubs come with light and audio systems where you can change the color and music. Pick the color and music that works for you. Another option is turning off the lights and sound, and enjoy the sounds of nature and stargaze.

Remove Jewelry

Remove any jewelry, including rings, necklaces, and bracelets, before getting into the hot tub. Metals can react with the water and cause discoloration or damage to the jewelry.

Use the Restroom

Take a bathroom break before getting into the hot tub to avoid interruptions once you’re in the water. This ensures a more relaxing and uninterrupted soak.

Set a Time Limit

While it’s tempting to linger in the hot tub for hours, it’s important to set a time limit to avoid overheating and dehydration. By establishing a predetermined time limit for your soak, you can ensure that you enjoy the benefits of hydrotherapy without overexposure. Aim for 15 to 30 minutes per session, with breaks in between. Additionally, setting a time limit allows for equal access to the hot tub among multiple users and helps to prevent overcrowding, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone. Remember, moderation is key.

By following these steps before getting in the hot tub, you can ensure a safe, clean, and enjoyable hot tub experience. So, next time you’re ready to indulge in the warmth of your hot tub, remember to take a moment to prepare yourself and the hot tub before jumping right in for the ultimate relaxation session.

When it comes to creating a personal oasis at home, hot tubs offer a perfect blend of relaxation and luxury. For consumers seeking a top-tier spa experience without a hefty price tag, it can require research and time to find the best budget hot tub. However, it doesn’t have to be lengthy process to find an affordable hot tub. In this blog post, we’ll talk about some of the most affordable hot tub option that are budget-friendly and high-quality, as well as practical tips on how to make hot tub ownership more accessible.

Types of Affordable Hot Tubs

Inflatable Hot Tubs

Inflatable hot tubs are among the most budget-friendly options on the market. People tend to like them because they are easy to set up and take down, making them ideal for renters or those with limited space. Many inflatable hot tubs come with built-in heaters, jets, and user-friendly controls. While inflatable hot tubs offer many advantages, they do come with some cons to consider such as their lack of durability, longevity, heat retention, jet power, and space. The set-up and take down can also be lengthy and the look of inflatable hot tubs can be less aesthetically appealing than hard-shell hot tubs.

Plug-and-Play Hot Tubs

Generally, more affordable than traditional hot tubs, with lower upfront costs and energy-efficient designs. There is no need for special wiring; simply plug into a standard electrical outlet. They are available in various sizes to accommodate different budgets and space requirements. Plug-and play hot tubs, while convenient, have some drawbacks worth considering. They are slow to heat, have limited jet power, higher energy consumption, and have a less durable construction.

Compact Two-Person Hot Tubs

Smaller in size, these hot tubs come with a lower price point while still offering a cozy and intimate experience. Heating smaller volumes of water is generally more energy efficient as well. This option is perfect for individuals with limited outdoor space. However, a two-person hot tub might not be the right direction if you have a big family or plan to host a hot tub party.

Depending on the material of the hot tub, the cost can also be brought down. Hot tubs made of rotomolded, wooden, or soft materials are cheaper in price. However, they come with the risk of being less durable than hot tubs built to last.

Bullfrog Spas X Series

Although more expensive than some budget hot tubs, the entry-level Bullfrog Spas X Series is the best hot tub for those on a budget who also want quality. This series offers renowned craftsmanship and dependability at an affordable price. It includes 7 hot tub styles that offer a different number of seats, jets, and sizes. The X Series is available in 3 trim levels, X Series, X Series Plus and X Series Select, to accommodate customer’s budgets, needs, and wants.

Bullfrog Spas X Series

Energy Efficiency

The Bullfrog Spas X Series exemplifies a commitment to energy efficiency, setting it apart as a mindful and sustainable choice. Designed with a focus on minimizing environmental impact and operational costs, the X Series incorporates advanced features that enhance energy efficiency. The inclusion of full-foam insulation ensures heat retention, reducing the frequency of heating cycles and conserving energy. These thoughtful design elements collectively make the X Series an eco-conscious option, allowing users to indulge in a hot tub experience while keeping energy consumption and associated costs in check.

Durable Construction

Durable construction is a cornerstone of the Bullfrog Spas X Series, reflecting a commitment to longevity and reliability. The solid one-piece spa base enhances structural integrity, ensuring a resilient foundation that can withstand the rigors of regular use. Crafted with top-tier materials, the X Series prioritizes durability without compromising on performance. From its pressure-treated wood-free frame to its corrosion-resistant steel components, every facet of the construction is carefully engineered to resist wear and tear, making the Bullfrog Spas X Series a durable and enduring investment in luxurious relaxation.

This exceptional lineup encompasses durable, wood-free EnduraFrame™, a robust one-piece spa base, efficient full-foam insulation, impressive lighting and water features, and top-notch components. Although the X Series does not include the Bullfrog Spas customizable Jetpak Therapy System, these other elements combine to deliver a lavish spa experience, making them some of the best budget hot tubs.

Making Hot Tubs More Affordable

While the Bullfrog Spas offers an exceptional balance of quality and affordability, there are ways to make the investment even more accessible in your hot tub purchasing journey.

Explore Financing Options

Exploring financing options is a key strategy that can make the purchase of a hot tub more budget-friendly and accessible. Many hot tub dealers offer flexible financing plans, allowing buyers to spread the cost of their investment over a set period. Instead of facing an upfront expense, individuals can opt for manageable monthly payments that align with their budget. Financing options often come with competitive interest rates and flexible terms, making it easier for buyers to enjoy the luxury of a hot tub without compromising their financial stability. This approach democratizes hot tub ownership, enabling a broader audience to bring the therapeutic benefits of a spa experience into their homes without a significant upfront cost. Whether it’s a fixed-rate loan or a special financing arrangement, exploring these options empowers buyers to invest in relaxation while comfortably managing their budget.

Many Bullfrog Spa dealers offer financing plans to accommodate various budgets. Make sure to ask your local Bullfrog Spas dealer what options they might have for you. Before committing to a financing plan, carefully review the terms and choose one that aligns with your hot tub budget.

Take Advantage of Promotions and Discounts

Seasonal sales and promotions can be a game-changer when it comes to making the dream of owning a hot tub more affordable. Hot tub dealers will often roll out discounts and special offers during specific seasons, holidays, or promotional events. These opportunities allow prospective buyers to capitalize on substantial savings, significantly reducing the upfront cost of a high-quality hot tub. Whether it’s a spring sale, a summer promotion, or a year-end clearance event, keeping an eye on these seasonal opportunities can make a considerable dent in the overall price tag. Savvy consumers who time their purchases strategically can find themselves enjoying the benefits of a hot tub at a fraction of the regular cost, making relaxation not just a dream but a budget-friendly reality.

Bullfrog Spas occasionally runs promotions, especially during specific seasons or events, providing an opportunity to secure a great deal on your favorite Bullfrog Spas hot tub series.

The Bullfrog Spas demonstrates that you don’t have to compromise luxury to afford a budget hot tub. With customizable features, energy efficiency, and durable construction, these hot tubs offer a premium spa experience without the premium price tag. By exploring financing options and staying alert for promotions, you can make a hot tub affordable to you and make your dream of owning a hot tub a reality.

Ever wondered how often you should give your hot tub or swim spa water a refresh? Maintenance is key to a well-taken care of hot tub. Let’s dive into the details of why it’s important, how often you should do it, and how to clean your spa before refilling.

How Often to Drain and Refill Your Spa

The frequency of draining and refilling a hot tub or swim spa can vary depending on several factors, including usage, water quality, and maintenance practices. As a general guideline, it’s recommended to drain and refill your hot tub or swim spa approximately every three to four months. However, here are some considerations that might affect the frequency:

Reasons to Drain Your Hot Tub or Swim Spa

Water Quality

As you use your spa, soap and detergent residues from your skin and bathing suits, along with other substances from maintaining the spa’s water chemistry will accumulate in the spa water and make maintaining the water more difficult. Rinsing your bathing suits and showering without soap prior to entering your spa will increase the life of your spa water.

Chemical Balance

Regularly draining and refilling the hot tub or swim spa allows you to reset the water’s chemical balance. Over time, chemicals used for water sanitation can accumulate and become less effective, affecting water quality and user safety.

Deep Cleaning

While regular chemical maintenance helps keep the water sanitized, draining the tub periodically allows you to thoroughly clean and disinfect all the surfaces, including the shell, jets, and plumbing lines. It will also help prevent bacteria growth and calcium buildup.

Winterizing

Although in most cases winterizing your Bullfrog Spa is unnecessary, there are times when you may consider doing so if you will not be using your spa for 6 weeks or longer. You will need to drain your spa and get rid of all water by following the instructions in the linked article or contacting your local authorized dealer for assistance.

How to Drain Your Bullfrog Spa

Note Before Starting

Drain your spa to an area that can handle a large quantity of water. Avoid drainage that can lead into basement window wells or any other area where damage could occur. If draining water onto vegetation, make sure that the water’s sanitizer level (chlorine or bromine) is less than 0.5 PPM.

Steps To Drain Your Spa:

Step 1: Turn off The main electrical breaker to the spa.

Step 2: Locate the drain below the equipment compartment door.

Step 3: Pull the drain out with a slight clockwise turn. Use pliers if needed. The drain is fully extended at approximately two inches (five centimeters).

Step 4: Remove the drain cap. Note that the drain spout will not drain when fully extended.

Step 5: Attach a standard garden hose. Push the drain spout in halfway to actuate the drain. The spa will drain about 5-10 gallons (20-40 liters) per minute. Ensure that the drainage is in an area safely away from window wells or basement entrances.

TIP: Use a sump pump to remove water faster from your spa.

Step 6: Once the spa is fully drained, pull the drain spout out all the way, remove the hose, replace the drain cap, and push the drain in all the way.

TIP: If any water remains at bottom of spa, use a wet/dry vac to remove all water. Rags or towels may also be needed.

Cleaning the Spa

Once your spa is drained, you are ready to clean areas of the spa that are not normally accessible when filled with water.

Warning: An empty spa without water in it must not be left exposed to sunlight as shell damage may occur. Shade the spa while cleaning and then fill back with water immediately when done.

Shell Surface Care

For normal cleaning of a dry spa, use a mild, diluted, dishwashing soap, window cleaner, or specific spa surface cleaning products recommended by your local authorized dealer. For stubborn stains, use a mild acrylic cleaner or a mild detergent. To apply these cleaners, use a soft, damp cloth or sponge. Rinse well and dry with a clean cloth.

Avoid using cleaning agents that leave soap residue in the water. Never allow your spa surface to be exposed to alcohol, acetone (nail polish remover), nail polish, dry cleaning solution, lacquer thinners, gasoline, pine oil, abrasive cleaners, or any other household chemicals other than those listed. These chemicals void the warranty.

JetPak Plumbing Care

For optimum spa care, each time the spa water is changed, remove all JetPaks. Clean the back manifold area with a spa surface cleaner and a long, soft bristle brush. For cleaning the JetPak acrylic surface, follow the same instructions above for Shell Surface Care.

Filter Cleaning or Replacement

Now is also a good time to check your filters to see if they need to be replaced or cleaned. Refer to this article about filter maintenance for further instructions.

Pillows

With all the relaxation they provide, it’s no wonder hot tub pillows may require a periodic cleaning. To do so, you simply wipe dirt and grime off with a cloth and mild soap. Non-petroleum based protectant products that maintain water resistance and appearance are also available and are good to use about once a month.

Spa pillows can be prone to discoloration if exposed high sanitizing levels. To minimize discoloration risk, it’s best to take pillows off when shocking your hot tub’s water and leave the cover open for at least 30 minutes afterwards.

Refilling Your Spa

Once your spa is clean, you are ready to refill the water. Make sure to follow the instructions in the linked article or your owner’s manual for proper filling and startup of your Bullfrog Spa.

Hot tub covers play a crucial role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and energy efficiency of your spa. Proper care and maintenance of your hot tub cover can prolong its lifespan and ensure optimal performance. In this blog post, we will guide you through the steps to clean and maintain your hot tub cover effectively.

Cleaning the Spa Cover

Regular cleaning of your spa cover is essential to remove dirt, debris, and contaminants that may accumulate over time. Follow these steps for monthly cleaning:

Step 1: Start by using a leaf blower to remove dust and debris from the dry cover fabric. Alternatively, a utility vacuum with a soft brush attachment can also be used.

Step 2: Use a garden hose to spray the entire cover with water. This will help remove loose dirt and debris.

Step 3: Rinse away all traces of dirt, sand, and debris from the cover. You can use a nozzle attachment on your garden hose for better cleaning.

Step 4: While the cover is wet, avoid touching or rubbing anything on it. This will prevent any potential damage to the cover material.

Step 5: Allow the cover to air dry completely before proceeding to the next step. This will prevent moisture from being trapped and potentially causing mold or mildew. To encourage standing water to drain, tip the cover at approximately a 45-degree angle using a cover lift or with the help of an assistant.

Step 6: Finally, ensure that all cover clips are securely fastened. This will keep the cover in place and prevent it from being blown open by the wind.

Note: If water does not bead on the cover surface or if the cover looks darker in some areas, you can use an outdoor fabric conditioner such as 303 Fabric Guard (avoid petroleum-based products) to restore water resistance. Avoid using any conditioning product on the underside of your cover.

Important Maintenance Tips

Keep the cover secure: Always place the cover over the spa and secure it properly when the spa is not in use. Pull down on the cover strap, click the two sides of the cover clips together, and lock each clip with the key provided. This ensures unauthorized entry is prevented and prevents the wind from inadvertently blowing the cover open.

Install the cover correctly: If your dealer did not install the cover, refer to the Cover Installation Instructions provided or contact them for assistance. Proper installation ensures a secure fit and enhances the cover’s performance.

Snow and heavy rain: In areas where heavy snowfall is expected, place a large piece of plywood or an equivalent support on top of the spa cover. This will help distribute the weight of the snow and prevent damage. After each snowstorm, promptly remove snow from the cover.

Avoid direct sunlight: Whenever possible, keep your hot tub away from direct, prolonged sunlight. Ultraviolet (UV) rays can fade or damage the spa cover and cabinet over time. Providing shade or using a cover lifter can help protect the cover from excessive sun exposure.

Cover Lifts

Cover lifts are convenient accessories that assist in the easy removal and storage of your hot tub cover. They help reduce strain on your back and prevent unnecessary wear and tear on the cover. Consider investing in a cover lift that suits your hot tub model for added convenience and longevity of your cover.

Replacing Cover Clips

Over time, cover clips may wear out or become damaged. Before opening your cover, make sure unclip the cover on the front and back or you may break the clips. If you notice any issues with the cover clips, such as difficulty securing them or signs of breakage, it is recommended to replace them promptly. Contact your authorized dealer or purchase on shop.bullfrogspas.com.

Safety Considerations

Child safety: Always keep your spa cover securely fastened when not in use to discourage unsupervised access, particularly by children. If the cover becomes damaged, it should be replaced to ensure proper safety measures.

Avoid placing weight on the cover: To prevent damage, never stand, sit, or place any heavy items on the cover. Excessive weight can lead to structural damage and compromise the cover’s integrity.

Cover Warranty

Bullfrog Spas offers a 3-year warranty on the Patio Performance™ spa cover against defects in materials or workmanship, excluding normal fading or wear. The warranty period starts from the original purchase date of the spa. Consult your Bullfrog Spas Dealer for further details regarding the warranty coverage.

In conclusion, taking proper care of your hot tub cover is crucial for maintaining a safe and enjoyable spa experience. Regular cleaning, correct installation, and adherence to safety guidelines will ensure your hot tub cover lasts longer and keeps your spa protected. By following these care and maintenance tips, you can maximize the lifespan and performance of your hot tub cover.

Your hot tub headrests help take your relaxation to the next level by providing support and comfort. These headrests should be properly cleaned and protected to last as long as possible before needing to be replaced.

Learn the important steps to protecting the longevity of your hot tub headrests and how to clean them. Most importantly, keep your pH & chemicals balanced and leave your hot tub cover open for 30 minutes after shocking the water.

How to Clean

Regularly clean all hot tub headrests with mild soap, water, and a clean cloth. Monthly, treat headrests using a non petroleum-based conditioning product such as 303 aerospace protectant, or as recommended by your Bullfrog Spas dealer. This will maintain the water resistance and luster of the product.

How to Protect & Extend Headrest Life

Spa headrest material is not designed to last forever in the presence of the sanitizers necessary to maintain clean and clear spa water. However, discoloration and degradation are greatly accelerated by high sanitizer use and/or improper ventilation after sanitizer application and shock treatments.

Proper care will extend headrest life but most often headrests will need to be replaced every few years and are not covered by the Bullfrog Spas Warranty beyond manufacturer defects.

Keep pH & Chemicals Balanced

Always keep your pH and other chemicals balanced to protect your hot tub surfaces and parts from degradation.

Leave Cover Open After Shocking

hot tub cover lifter

We highly recommend leaving the cover open for at least 30 minutes after shocking to ensure pillows are not adversely affected by the off gas. Leaving the cover open will allow the gas to escape, protecting the headrests, cover, and other materials in your hot tub.

To further extend the life of your headrests, you can remove the pillows during and after shock-treating the spa water or when sanitizer levels are high.

How to Remove Headrests

You can remove your headrests for deep cleaning or for additional protection when shocking your spa.

The headrests on your Swim Series, M Series, and X Series headrests can easily be replaced by lifting the headrest. A Series spa headrests have additional instructions since the headrest and JetPak are attached and can be interchanged as one unit.

A Series Headrest Removal Instructions

Removal of the JetPak headrest, snap cap, or internal JetPak cap assembly is not necessary for normal spa operation. However, for proper spa maintenance, it is recommended to clean these parts thoroughly. Disassembly may help make cleaning easier. It may also be necessary to disassemble the JetPak cap assembly for replacement of associated parts.”

Step 1: Turn off all pumps.

Step 2: Remove Jetpak from the pod by sliding a hand into the recess between the top of the pillow and the spa. Push away from you towards the inside of the spa.

Step 3: Remove the pillow by placing your hands under the front of the pillow. Gently pull up and back to release from the snap cap.

Step 4: At the front of the snap cap, grasp light blue wedge and pull up. Remove completely

Step 5: Grip the internal JetPak cap assembly and pull up to remove completely from the Jetpak manifold. If you have an A Series Select spa, there is a light that is held in by snaps; take care not to let it slip off. Remove the light by gently pulling forward off snap to clean the internal JetPak cap assembly.

Step 6: To put back together, snap light back in place. Align internal JetPak cap assembly ears with JetPak manifold and press down until it snaps into place. Slide light blue wedge back into the slot and push down until it clicks. Fit the upper snap cap and pillow back on top of the internal JetPak cap assembly by lining up the back inner lip with the edge of the snap cap fitting inside the inner lip. This will require slight adjusting to place back on. For premium headrests (A Series Plus and A Series Select) verify that the pillow encapsulates and goes around the snap cap on the back and side.

Neck JetPak Removal/Replacement A Series Plus and A Series Select Models

Step 1: Put the spa in “Standby.” This will prevent the pump(s) from activating (see Control Systems).

Step 2: Remove the JetPak from the pod by sliding a hand into the recess between the top of the pillow and the spa. Push the JetPak away from you and toward the inside of the spa.

Step 3: Clip the additional snap cap over the first JetPak snap cap. Once this is in place, slide the A Series Standard Model neck pillow under the front of the snap cap, then push down to clip it into place.

Step 4: Stretch the pillow over the headrest assembly, ensuring that it is fully encapsulated. Both sides and the back of the pillow should cover the JetPak snap cap.

Step 5: Check that the pillow encapsulates the front of the JetPak clips on the canister (for neck JetPaks).

Neck JetPak Removal/Replacement A Series Standard Models

Step 1: Put the spa in “Standby.” This will prevent the pump(s) from activating (see Control Systems).

Step 2: Remove the JetPak from the pod by sliding a hand into the recess between the top of the pillow and the spa. Push the JetPak away from you and toward the inside of the spa.

Step 3: Seat the lower JetPak cap assembly and snap into place. Then snap the top cap and pillow assembly into place. Once these are in place, slide the A Series standard neck pillow under the front edge of the cap and push down to secure in place.

Step 4: Clip additional JetPak snap cap over the first JetPak snap cap. Once this is in place, slide the A Series Standard Model neck headrest under the front of the snap cap, then push down to clip into place.

FROG® @ease® is the Bullfrog Spas suggested water care method in the USA for all spas other than swim spas. All 2 filter Bullfrog Spas (other than Swim Series) come equipped with an @ease-ready holder system installed. This holder accepts FROG @ease system cartridges (mineral & SmartChlor® chlorine) designed specifically for Bullfrog Spas. The @ease system holder and system cartridge kits may be obtained through your Authorized Bullfrog Spas Dealer or on our online shop.

FROG @ease is a hot tub sanitizing system custom designed for Bullfrog Spas® that takes the guess work out of water care so you always feel at ease while enjoying your hot tub.

*FROG @ease is available in the USA only. If you are not using FROG @ease in your spa, please see the instructions here on proper hot tub water care.

Water Balance Guidelines

Balancing water chemistry may seem difficult or confusing, but it doesn’t have to be. The basic factors that go into maintaining and balancing your spa water are alkalinity, pH levels, sanitizers, and hardness. You will use a test strip to see the levels of each and then adjust one at a time to get them in the correct range.

Always follow printed instructions on the balancing chemical packages. Add balancing chemicals in small increments one at a time with the jets on and wait 6 hours before testing again and adding any additional balancing chemicals.

Recommend Levels

pH: 7.2 – 7.8

Total Alkalinity: 80 – 120 ppm

Calcium Hardness: 150 – 250 ppm

Total Dissolved Solids: <1500

Testing and Balancing Instructions

  1. Take a FROG @ease Test Strip and dip it into your hot tub water for approximately 2 seconds.
  2. Remove the test strip with pads up and shake once.
  3. Compare the test strip pad colors to those on the test strip bottle.
  4. Look at the Total Alkalinity reading first. Adjustments should be made to bring the Total Alkalinity in the range of 80 – 120 ppm prior to making any adjustments to pH even if it throws pH off further.
  5. After Total Alkalinity is in range, test for pH. It should be between 7.2 and 7.8. If higher or lower, add a pH adjuster.
  6. Lastly, test for Calcium Hardness. It should be between 150 and 250 ppm. If higher, partially drain the hot tub (about 6 inches) and fill with water low in calcium. If lower, add Calcium Increaser. If balancing takes longer than 2 days shock the water and maintain a chlorine level while continuing balancing.
  7. Very Important! After balancing and before using cartridges, establish an initial residual of 0.5 – 1.0 ppm free chlorine with FROG® Jump Start® start-up shock, included in this package, that quickly dissolves with an effervescent fizzing action – one packet per 600 gallons.

Select the Cartridge Settings

The combination provides the Fresh Mineral Water benefits of cleaner, clearer and softer water that’s easier to take care of.

First, Remove the silver FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge from its bag before proceeding.

Next, Set the blue FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge to #4 using the dial on the bottom of the cartridge. No further adjustments are necessary for the life of the blue cartridge.

Recommended Setting for Silver Cartridge

Setting #1: A5L, R5L

Setting #2: A6, A6L, R6, R6L, STIL5, X7, X7L

Setting #3: M7, A7, A7L, A7D, R8L, R7, R7L, STIL7, X8, X8L

Setting #4:M9, M8, A9L, A8, A8L, R8

Set the silver FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge to the setting that matches your hot tub model number. If needed, you may increase or decrease the dial setting. Once set, the FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge will maintain a low 0.5 to1.0 ppm chlorine level as long as the pH stays within 7.2 and 7.8 so typically there is little need to adjust the cartridge setting.

Place the Cartridges in the Spa

A Series (2023 & Later) and M Series Instructions

  1. Turn off main power to the spa
  2. Locate the JetPak to the right of the control panel and remove the JetPak.
  3. Remove Simplicity Filter Holder by taking hold of the handle, pushing into the hot tub and lift out.
  4. Insert FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge and FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge into the two openings below the filter cartridge. Push cartridges in until they are latched.
  5. To remove cartridges, push them in until they are free of the latches, then slide them out.
  6. Replace Simplicity Filter Holder and the JetPak over it.
  7. Turn on main power.

A/R Series (2022 & Prior), X Series, and STIL Instructions

  3. Snap the FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge into one opening of the cartridge holder. With the @ease logo facing the holder, put the dial end of the cartridge into the holder first by connecting the tab on the holder with the indent in the cartridge.
  4. Then push the top part of the cartridge in until it snaps into place.
  5. Follow the same procedure for the FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge into the other opening.
  6. With the silver FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge facing the inside of the hot tub, insert cartridge holder between the filter cartridges under the weir door/ lter plate pushing down until it stays in place.
  7. Replace the filter snap cap.

Replacing Cartridges

Silver FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge

Silver FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge will last about 3-4 weeks for an average 400 gallon hot tub. To check if the cartridge needs to be replaced, Dip a FROG @ease test strip into your water for 2 seconds and then shake it once. Compare the color at the top of the test strip with the SmartChlor Out Indicator on the test strip bottle. When the test test strip is darker than the bottle label, the hot tub is good to go. When it’s lighter, you need to replace your SmartChlor Cartridge. You can also drain the water from the cartridge to ensure it is empty. If it is empty, discard in trash or bring to your dealer as part of the FROG @ease recycling program.

Blue FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge

Replace blue FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge every four months. Discard it in the trash even though you will hear the spent media left inside. Don’t attempt to reuse: the minerals are spent after 4 months.

Routine Hot Tub Care Tips

hot tub water maintenance

Drain and refill hot tub as directed by your hot tub manufacturer or every four months when FROG minerals need to be replaced.

Run filtration system as recommended by your hot tub manufacturer to maintain proper water flow through the system.

Regularly test water with FROG @ease Test Strips and follow directions in Step 1 for maintaining pH, Total Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness.

NOTE: pH is affected by bather load, chemicals used, evaporation and the make-up of your source water so maintaining water balance regularly is important.

FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge will maintain 0.5-1.0 ppm free chlorine level as long as the water is balanced. NOTE: Free Chlorine levels are reduced up to 75%* when using FROG @ease Minerals.

NOTE: Why FROG @ease Test Strips? The FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge forms a chlorine reserve that will be inaccurately measured as total chlorine on other test strips. Unlike conventional chlorine, the SmartChlor reserve readily shifts to free chlorine as needed, maintaining spa health with a low level of chlorine.

Shock the hot tub with a non-chlorine shock when you replace the FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge or once a month.

Replace your FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge every 3-4 weeks or when empty and your Mineral Cartridge every 3-4 months or when empty.

FROG @ease Troubleshooting

Cloudy Water or Low-Chlorine Levels

Check water balance. pH and Total Alkalinity need to be in the proper ranges for the FROG @ease System to work correctly.

Check the FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge and replace if empty. If FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge is not empty, turn dial setting up 1 number and monitor chlorine levels for a few days while maintaining water balance. If needed turn dial up again.

Check your calendar. The entire FROG @ease System including a FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge needs to be replaced every four months. Without the minerals, SmartChlor will not be enough to sanitize the hot tub.

FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge Life

If your hot tub is larger than 400 gallons with a significant bather load, you may require a higher dial setting which will shorten the cartridge life.

If you think the cartridge setting is too high, you can turn the dial setting down 1 number and monitor chlorine levels for a few days while maintaining water balance. If needed, turn the dial down again.

High Chlorine Levels

This is highly unlikely with the FROG @ease System because SmartChlor is self-regulating. However, if you use standard test strips, it may appear that total chlorine is higher than the free chlorine. No worries—the strip is measuring the SmartChlor reserve, which will shift to free chlorine as needed. Please always use the FROG @ease Test Strips that were included with your System.

FROG @ease FAQ’s

If I use standard test strips, I see a high total chlorine level but a very low free chlorine level in the water. Why is this?

The FROG @ease system uses SmartChlor technology, a unique form of chlorine that:

  • Creates a chlorine reserve that is activated only when there is a demand. This reserve is read as total chlorine on a standard test strip and can be as high as 5 – 10 ppm but it’s in reserve – inactive until needed.
  • Self-regulates the free chlorine level at a consistently low 0.5 ppm, which can be hard to read on a standard test strip. Since this level doesn’t change for the life of the cartridge, as long as the water stays balanced, there is no need to test for it.
  • Has its own test strip that gives you an Out Indicator when the reserve is used up. If your test strip is lighter than the color on the bottle, it’s time to check or replace the SmartChlor Cartridge.

What does it mean when my test strip is lighter than the color on the test strip bottle?

Your SmartChlor reserve level is low. This can be due to one of several reasons:

  • Your SmartChlor Cartridge may be new. If you just installed a new SmartChlor Cartridge, it can take several days for the SmartChlor reserve to build up. Test again in 24 hours.
  • Your SmartChlor Cartridge may be very low or empty. Remove the cartridge from the holder, drain the water, and shake it gently to feel if there is any SmartChlor left inside. If empty, shock the hot tub with FROG Maintain Non-Chlorine Shock (1 packet per 600 gallons) and replace with a new SmartChlor Cartridge.
  • Your SmartChlor Cartridge setting may be set too low. Turn the dial to the next highest setting, and test again in 24 hours.

My salesperson estimated that my SmartChlor Cartridges should last 3-4 weeks each, but they seem to be running out sooner than that. Why is that?

There are several possible answers to this question, along with a few tips for increasing cartridge life:

Hot Tub Use:

Like all water sanitizers, SmartChlor use depends on spa use. The more contaminants (the number of people and frequency of use) that are introduced to your spa water, the faster your SmartChlor Cartridge will deplete. You can always be sure your spa has enough chlorine reserve available by checking your spa water with the FROG @ease Test Strips provided.

Hot Tub Size:

Larger hot tubs need more sanitizer to ensure they stay clean and clear. This is directly related to hot tub use as typically larger hot tubs can hold more people which puts more demand on the sanitizer. Gallon size also determines your dial setting.

Dial Setting:

The rate of SmartChlor release is related to the setting (1-4) selected on the dial and the water flow in the filter well area during spa use or filtration. Start with the dial setting listed in the manual for your hot tub model. Depending on how you use your spa, a lower setting may extend cartridge life, while maintaining adequate levels of SmartChlor in the water.

Additional Tips for Clean & Clear Water

Adjust Dial Settings if Needed

Although the recommended SmartChlor Cartridge dial settings have been evaluated to be effective in most cases, each specific use case is unique, including yours. You may need to experiment a bit to find the setting that works best for your use, and you may need to adjust the setting if usage patterns change.

If you prefer to increase the length of your filtration cycle(s) beyond the factory settings, or if your spa is equipped with a dedicated filtration pump that runs all or most of the time, you may want to turn the dial on your SmartChlor Cartridge to a lower setting to reduce premature dissolving of SmartChlor.

People & Swimwear Cleanliness

People and their swimwear introduce most of the unwanted contaminants to a hot tub. To reduce the amount of possible organic contaminants introduced to your spa water, apply the following tips.

As much as possible, avoid entering your spa with sunscreen, lotions, deodorants, shampoos, or similar substances on your body, or detergents on your clothes.

Do not wash swimwear you intend to wear in your spa with detergents. Many people keep a dedicated “spa” suit that is never laundered with detergent but simply rinsed well after use.

Rinse off in the shower before (and after) spa use.

Shocking Helps

If your spa water ever appears a little murky in between water changes a simple non-chlorine shock treatment will often clear things up. Always use non-chlorine monopersulfate (MPS) shock products, like FROG Maintain, for these occasional clean up treatments.

When shocking your hot tub, never use a chlorine-based shock product (except when using FROG Jump Start® at start-up) These products introduce cyanuric acid (CYA) to the water which accumulates and can reduce SmartChlor effectiveness.

Ensuring proper maintenance of your hot tub filter is essential for a clean and enjoyable hot tub experience. Just like the air filter in a car, the hot tub filter plays a crucial role in trapping particles and contaminants, keeping the water pristine. However, as time goes by, the filter gradually becomes clogged and loses its efficiency. That’s why we have put together this comprehensive guide, providing you with step-by-step instructions on how to effectively clean and replace your hot tub filters, maximizing their lifespan and prolong optimal performance.

The Importance of Hot Tub Filter Maintenance

To truly understand the importance of filter maintenance, it’s necessary to grasp how the filter functions. Composed of fibrous fabric, the hot tub filter acts as a barrier, capturing debris as water flows through it. However, as dirt and debris accumulate over time, the filter becomes obstructed, leading to a decrease in its effectiveness. By adhering to a regular maintenance routine, you can ensure that your filter remains clear of impurities and continues to provide you with clean water, creating the perfect environment for a relaxing hot tub experience.

Different Types of Bullfrog Spas Filters

Bullfrog Spas currently features two types of filters to cater to different spa models and meet specific filtration needs. The first type is the Simplicity Flat Filters, which are utilized in A Series spas (2023 and onward), Swim Series Spas, and M Series Spas. The second type is the traditional pleated cylindrical filter cartridges, which are used in A Series Spas (2022 and prior), R Series spas, X Series spas, and STIL spas. Depending on which spa and filters you have, the maintenance schedule and instructions differ. Be sure to follow the instructions for your specific spa.

Simplicity™ Flat Filter Cleaning and Maintenance

A Series Spas (2023 and onward), Swim Series Spas, and M Series Spas

It is recommended that the pleated flat Simplicity filter be cleaned or replaced every 4 weeks, or sooner if needed. You may prefer to simply replace monthly, or Simplicity filters can be cleaned by spraying along the pleats from one side of the filter to the other with a garden hose and nozzle, then rinsing thoroughly. Even with regular cleaning, Simplicity filters will eventually become less effective and should be replaced at least every 12-16 weeks.

Steps for Cleaning and Replacing:

Step 1: Turn off main power to the spa.

Step 2: Remove the JetPak in front of the Simplicity filter housing (this is the first JetPak to the right of main control)

Step 3: Remove the Simplicity Filter holder. Reach down into the jet pod and grasp the handle. Push toward the inside of the spa and lift up to remove from the housing. Place the unit on a flat surface with the filter facing up.

Step 4: Remove and replace the filter. To remove the Simplicity Filter, compress the pleats and push forward. Lift the edge of the filter past the capture tab. This will allow you to lift the used filter from the filter holder. Clean filter by spraying along the pleats from one side of the filter to the other with a garden hose and nozzle, then rinsing thoroughly. Replace the filter. Orient the filter media with the glue lines facing upward. Slide one end of the filter under the retention tabs, and then press in and down to tuck the remainder of the filter into the frame.

Step 5: Reinstall the Simplicity Filter holder back into the pod, by aligning the bottom of the unit in the housing with the handle up and snap the filtration unit into place in the housing with a back and down motion.

Step 6: Replace the JetPak.

Step 7: Restore the main power to the spa.

Cylindrical Filter Cleaning and Maintenance

A Series Spas (2022 & prior), R Series Spas, X Series Spas, and STIL Spas

It is recommended that pleated cylindrical filter cartridges be cleaned every 3-6 weeks or as needed. Spas equipped with the optional circulation pump system may require increased cleaning intervals based on use and local water conditions.  These filters are typically replaced every 1-2 years depending on spa use.

Steps for Cleaning and Replacing:

Step 1: Turn off main power to the spa.

Step 2: Remove filter cap and filter plate.

Step 3: Remove the pleated cartridge(s) by turning the filtercore cap(s) counter clockwise then sliding the cartridge(s) upward from the filter core.

Step 4: Using a garden hose with a nozzle or other high pressure device, clean cartridge(s). Work first from the inside, top to bottom on each pleat then from the outside, top to bottom on each pleat. To remove collected lotions or body oils, soak cartridge(s) in warm water with a filter cleaner or detergent. To remove calcium deposits, soak cartridge(s) in a plastic container using a 1:10 ratio of muriatic acid to water solution. Calcium deposits indicate a high spa pH, which should be corrected. NOTE: Filter(s) must be cleaned with a filter cleaner/degreaser before attempting to remove calcium and mineral deposits with any acidic based product. Using a brush to clean a filter cartridge could cause damage to the filter media.

Step 5: Reinstall cartridges(s) by aligning the cartridge slot with the filter core fin; reinstall the filter core cap(s), filter plate, and filter cap.

Step 6: Restore main power to the spa.

Key Takeaways

In conclusion, taking care of your hot tub filter is vital for ensuring a clean and enjoyable spa experience. Regularly cleaning or replacing the filters helps to prevent debris buildup and prolongs the filter’s efficiency in removing impurities from the water. Bullfrog Spas offers different types of filters, so it is essential to follow the specific maintenance instructions for your spa model.

Enjoy the benefits of crystal-clear water and a pristine hot tub environment by prioritizing your hot tub filter’s care.

When shopping for a hot tub as a means of relaxing after a hard day of work, or unwinding after an even harder day of play, it’s important to be proactive in finding out what possible obstacles or problems might crop up. Or maybe you already own your spa and have come across one of these already and need a quick answer or solution.

Whether you’re looking to buy a hot tub, or already own one, this article is going to break down the most common hot tub problems and some ways to solve them.

Common Hot Tub Water Care Issues

Water chemistry maintenance sometimes feels like that one science class you used to struggle with in school. There are so many formulas and possibilities for problems and answers. But lucky for you, water care technology is constantly evolving, and of all the problems associated with hot tub ownership, water care is generally the easiest to fix.

Cloudy Water

Cloudy water is most often an issue with the alkalinity or pH levels in your hot tub. If either of these levels becomes too high, your chlorine-based disinfectants won’t be as effective and can lead to mineral buildup, cloudy water, scales on the shell of your hot tub, and skin or eye irritation.

Cloudy spa water can also be caused by sweat, lotions, or a lack of proper chemical maintenance. To correct the issue you should:

  1. First, check your spa’s alkalinity and pH levels and adjust as needed.
  2. Next, test your sanitizer (chlorine or bromine) levels. If the sanitizer level is too low, add more.
  3. Wait two hours and test the water again.
  4. Repeat this process until the sanitizer levels are consistently correct. Always run the pumps for 15 minutes with the cover open after adding any chemicals.

If you’re using the FROG @ease for Bullfrog Spas water care system, you should:

  1. First make sure the SmartChlor cartridge is not empty. Replace the cartridge if necessary.
  2. If it is not empty, turn the dial setting up 1 number and monitor chlorine levels for a few days while maintaining water balance. If needed, turn the dial up again.
  3. The entire FROG @ease System, including a FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge, needs to be replaced every four months. Without the minerals, SmartChlor will not be enough to sanitize the hot tub.

Foam/Bubbles

The primary reason for foamy water is most often due to pH balance that is being thrown off by contaminants in your water, such as oils and lotions, soaps and detergents, or biofilm buildup. The good news is that foamy water is generally easy to treat with a pH balancer, and it can be avoided by attempting to eliminate allowing these contaminates from entering your hot tub water.

If your pH levels are too low (below 7.2), use a pH increaser to help raise the pH levels and balance the water. If the levels are too high (above 7.8), use a pH decreaser to help bring those levels back down into the recommended range.

Make sure you add the appropriate chemical and the amount recommended by the manufacturer to treat the correct problem. Take into consideration the body chemistry, bather load, and any outside materials being brought into the hot tub, such as mud, grass, and leaves, and treat accordingly.

Dirty Water or Water Line

Unfortunately, some bacteria and viruses are able to survive in warm water. For this reason, sanitizing your water is important to keep it disinfected, clear, and smelling fresh. The two most common sanitizers are bromine and chlorine. You might also try using a water conditioning kit, which has a pH balancer in the chemicals to help maintain these levels correctly.

If sanitizer just isn’t doing the trick, it’s time to shock your water. Shock treatments break down the organic contaminants that lead to cloudy, mucky-looking water and unpleasant odors by oxidizing contaminants and releasing them as a gas. Regularly treating your hot tub water with shock reduces the need for high chemical doses; aids in eliminating bacteria, viruses, and algae; and prolongs the life of your equipment.

Common Technical Hot Tub Issues

Technology is the best—except when it’s not. The downside of technology is that sometimes it fails. But it’s okay, because humans are smart, and for every failure, there is a solution. More often than not, it’s a simple one. Here are a few to consider.

Hot Tub Error Code Issues

Error codes indicate something is wrong with the inner workings of your hot tub, but these codes can be confusing. If your hot tub is speaking in another language, check out your owner’s manual to see if the code or problem is listed there, or call your local Bullfrog Spas dealer for assistance.

Airlock in Pump

To prevent airlocks when filling your spa, be sure to open all valves in the JetPaks and all other jets in the spa before filling to allow air to escape from during the filling process.

Your hot tub’s pumps must be primed directly after filling to ensure the correct operation of your spa and to get rid of any airlocks. After initial startup, verify that the home status screen appears on the panel and follow the process of priming your pumps, one at a time, until the process has been repeated for all available pumps.

On rare occasions, priming the pumps will not get rid of an airlock. The next step is to remove the front panel and locate the pump with an airlock. The wet-end of the pump has a bleed valve—loosen this until all the air escapes and water starts to drip out, or loosen the union on the pump to let the air out until you see water. Do not attempt this while the spa pump is running. If you need help doing this or this does not resolve the problem, please contact your authorized Bullfrog Spa Dealer.

Spa not Heating

If your spa temperature is low, first check the thermostat to see if it has been turned down or set to low heat range. Adjust the thermostat to desired temperature or set to high heat range.

Another common reason for your spa temperature to be low is that the high-limit sensor has tripped. Press the reset button on your control panel to reset the system.

If neither of the above steps works, your heating system may be defective. Contact your authorized Bullfrog Spas Dealer for further diagnosis and troubleshooting assistance.

Small Leak

Leaks in a Bullfrog Spa are rare, due to the unique way each spa is plumbed, and how much additional plumbing is required thanks to the patented Jetpak Therapy System®. If you notice your spa is losing water, check all fittings and equipment in the equipment compartment for the source of leakage. If a leak is detected, tighten the fitting by hand. If the leak persists, you cannot find the source of the leak, or the leak is coming from the shell, contact your authorized Bullfrog Spas Dealer.

Common Hot Tub Part/Accessory Problems

If you are in need of replacement parts or accessories for your Bullfrog Spa, first reach out to your local dealer. This is especially important if your spa is relatively new to you. Additionally, some products are available online at shop.bullfrogspas.com.

Spa Headrests Disintegrating

Headrest discoloration and/or degradation is accelerated by high sanitizer use and improper ventilation after shock treatments. To prevent your spa headrests from disintegrating, remove the them during and after shock treating the spa water or when sanitizer levels are high. In addition, leave your spa cover open for at least 30 minutes after shocking to ensure the headrests are not affected.

Broken Cover Clips

Broken clips are from strong winds or failure to undo them before opening the cover and is not a warranty part. Contact your dealer to get replacement clips or purchase them from our online shop.

To replace the cover clip, first remove the male end of the clip. Then, use clippers to make two small diagonal cuts on the clip loop. This makes an opening for the cover loop. Insert the cover loop into the opening and push the cover loop entirely into the clip.

There are a number of smaller problems that can easily be solved with a little bit of research, but those that can’t can be solved with the help of your local authorized Bullfrog Spas Dealer. Contact them with your hot tub maintenance questions.

You may be wondering what ozone has to do with anything when it comes to water. Isn’t it an environmental element? As in, you know, the sky? Well yes, technically it is that. The EPA tells us that O3 (aka Ozone) is a highly reactive gas made from three separate atoms. But ozone also exists in a lot of other places and has an important purpose. It’s basically like nature’s favorite cleaning element.

The ozone layer in the sky is like the environment’s filter for harmful UV rays from the sun. You can buy ozone air purifiers for your home and office, too. So, it makes sense that it can also be used in water to help with sanitation and filtering there.

What is a Hot Tub Ozonator?

Basically, a hot tub ozonator, or ozone generator as it is sometimes called, gets attached to a jet, which then injects ozone gas into the water where it breaks down contaminates like lotion, soaps, body oils, saliva, and other potential impurities and pushes them out of your hot tub water. Bam!

There’s a science to how this works, which is super interesting. It has to do with splitting atoms that attach to the oxygen molecules in the water and help reduce the amount of chemicals needed to keep the water sanitized.

Basically, if your hot tub has an ozonator, the water stays clearer and cleaner with less work and fewer chemicals because the ozone enhances the ability of the chemicals to keep the water clean, making them last longer and go further than ever before. In addition to this, ozone gas is compatible with all types of chemicals. It’s not particular to any one specific type of system, so it can benefit ANY hot tub water system.

Now. Let’s say you get an ozonator and it extends the life of your chemicals, does that mean you still have to drain and refill your hot tub as often? The answer is no. On top of lengthening the life of your chemicals, it also lengthens the life of your hot tub water. Some hot tub owners have reported going from changing their water quarterly to yearly after adding an ozone generator to their sanitizing system.

Do I Need an Ozonator for My Hot Tub?

Maybe. Maybe not. Technically, your hot tub can function without it. However, this is one of those cases where you either pay the cost up front or down the line. Do you pay the cost to install your ozonator now, even though it add to the cost of your hot tub purchase, or do you pay more for the chemicals, and use more of them, for the life of your spa? It’s a tough decision for some people, but if you consider it a necessity in the beginning, and factor in the cost of adding it on when you make your initial purchase, the cost savings down the road can be significant.

Cost savings aside, because ozone is a natural gas, and because it requires the use of far fewer chemicals, it’s a more natural and gentle way to achieve clean, clear spa water. This means that it’s healthier for your body, and creates less wear and tear on your spa equipment.

How Much is an Ozonator for a Hot Tub?

Typically, ozone generators, or ozonators, start between $200 and $1000 and go up from there. For instance, if you were looking to purchase the Bullfrog Spas EOS™ O3 Enhanced Ozone System, you’d find it listed for somewhere in the $775-$800 range. To add on the Wellspring™ Ozone Purifier System will cost between $300-$350.

When you consider the amount of money you’ll save monthly on chemicals, the system ends up paying for itself over. Plus it’ll save you time and stress since caring for your spa will be easier. That’s significant.

What is the Lifespan of a Hot Tub Ozonator?

Generally, an ozone generator should last at least three to five years or longer. During that time, some might require cartridge replacements that have varying lifespans themselves. It’s important to choose one that will last as long as possible, so you can be sure to get your money’s worth. For instance, the EOS™ O3 has cartridges that can be replaced every two years, and because of that, the system itself lasts much longer than average.

Bullfrog Spas Ozone Options

EOS™ O3 Enhanced Ozone System

The EOS™ Enhanced O3 System is a revolutionary water purification system that generates as much as two times the amount of ozone as standard systems*, charges spa water with free ozone more effectively, sanitizes spa water better, and destructs nearly all of the residual O3 gas. EOS has been third-party validated to kill 99.9% of the microorganisms that could be found in spas.

WellSpring™ Ozone Purifier System

The WellSpring™ Ozone Purifier System features corona discharge electrode technology that creates ozone which increases the purifying oxidation potential of your spa’s own water. Keep your spa clean and significantly reduce the amount of sanitizing chemicals needed.
