So, your trusty hot tub has served you well over the years, but now it’s showing its age, and you’re wondering what to do with it. Instead of letting it gather dust or taking up valuable space in your backyard, consider these creative ways of what to do with an old hot tub.

Sell

If your hot tub is still in decent condition and fully functional, consider selling it to someone who could use it. First, assess the condition of your hot tub. Ensure it’s clean, functional, and free of any major defects. Then, consider your selling options. You might be asking yourself, who buys old hot tubs? And how much is my hot tub worth? Online marketplaces like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or eBay are excellent platforms to sell a used hot tub. Alternatively, you could approach local spa dealerships or refurbishing companies who might be interested in purchasing it. When it comes to pricing, according to Forbes, the average resale value of a used hot tub is 25% to 33% of the original value. With patience and persistence, you’ll find the perfect buyer who buys old hot tubs.

Tip: Remember to include clear photos, detailed descriptions, and be transparent about any flaws. Look for individuals who are looking for bargains or those interested in DIY.

Donate

Donating an old hot tub is a generous way to give it a new lease on life while helping others. Start by researching local charitable organizations or nonprofits that accept large item donations. Many organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, may be willing to accept hot tubs in good condition. Additionally, consider reaching out to community centers, schools, or rehabilitation facilities that might benefit from a donated hot tub for therapy or recreational purposes. Ensure that the hot tub is in working condition and thoroughly cleaned before donation. By donating your old hot tub, you not only declutter your space but also contribute to a meaningful cause in your community.

Upgrade Your Spa by Trading It In

Vernon Hill Hot Tub Store

Do you love your hot tub? Trading in your hot tub is a great option if you’re planning to get an upgraded hot tub anyway. Start by contacting your local spa dealer and asking them if they have a trade-in program. Be prepared to provide details about the make, model, age, and condition of your hot tub. Some dealers may offer you credit towards the purchase of a new hot tub, while others may offer cash or a discount on a new purchase. Before trading in, thoroughly clean and inspect your hot tub to ensure it’s in good working condition.

For hot tub enthusiasts, the prospect of upgrading their spa to a newer model can be exciting. Upgrading means gaining access to the latest innovations and features, from advanced hydrotherapy options to cutting-edge technology integrations. It’s also about keeping relaxation and not forgoing family and friend time.

By trading in your old hot tub, you can simplify the process of upgrading to a newer model while also potentially saving money on your new purchase. It’s a win-win situation that allows you to bid farewell to your old tub while eagerly awaiting the possibilities of your next spa.

Repurpose

If your hot tub is not usable anymore and you don’t want to pay to have it removed, you can always repurpose it and create something new. One option is to transform it into a pond or water feature. By adding a liner, plants, and aquatic life, you can create a tranquil oasis that attracts birds and wildlife, enhancing the natural beauty of your garden. Alternatively, repurpose your hot tub into a giant planter, allowing you to cultivate flowers, herbs, or vegetables right in your backyard. Customize the look by painting or decorating the exterior to suit your style. For those seeking functionality, consider utilizing the depth of the hot tub by turning it into a raised garden bed.

A less expensive and budget-friendly idea is transforming your old hot tub space into an outdoor lounge area or seating nook, complete with comfortable seating, shade umbrellas, and decorative elements. This cozy retreat provides a perfect spot to relax and unwind with loved ones, making the most of your repurposed hot tub space. Repurposing an old hot tub offers endless creative possibilities to breathe new life into your outdoor space.

Recycle or Dispose Responsibly

Hot Tub Delivery

If your hot tub is beyond repair or repurposing, explore options for recycling or responsible disposal. Recycling or disposing of a hot tub can be a challenging task due to its size and materials. However, many options are available to ensure it’s disposed of in an eco-friendly manner. Start by contacting your local waste management or recycling center to inquire about their policies and any specific regulations regarding hot tub disposal. Some municipalities offer special pickup services or have designated drop-off locations for large items like hot tubs.

Additionally, explore recycling options for the various components of the hot tub, such as the shell, plumbing, and electrical components. Many recycling centers or scrap yards may accept these materials for processing. If all else fails, consider hiring a professional junk removal service that specializes in disposing of bulky items. By taking the time to research and choose the most suitable disposal method, you can ensure your old hot tub is handled responsibly, minimizing its environmental impact.

As you contemplate the future of your old hot tub, it’s clear that there are numerous options. By exploring all options available, not only can you minimize waste and environmental impact, but you can also potentially enhance your outdoor space and contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. From repurposing it into a pond to donating it to someone who could benefit from it, the possibilities are endless. So, before bidding farewell to your beloved hot tub, take a moment to ask yourself what you should do with your old hot tub and decide what works best for you.

There’s something undeniably luxurious about slipping into a hot tub for some well-deserved relaxation. However, before you get in, it’s important to ensure you’ve taken care of a few essential pre-hot tub rituals. From hygiene to safety measures, here’s a comprehensive guide of things to do before getting in the hot tub.

Shower

Showering before dipping into a hot tub is not just a matter of common courtesy, but it’s also crucial for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the water. Our bodies naturally carry oils, dirt, and bacteria, which can quickly accumulate in the hot tub water, leading to unpleasant odors and potential health hazards. By taking a quick shower beforehand, you can rinse off these contaminants, ensuring that you enter the hot tub with a clean slate. Not only does this practice contribute to a more enjoyable and relaxing experience for everyone, but it also helps to prolong the lifespan of the hot tub’s filtration system, saving you time and money on maintenance in the long run.

Hydrate

Hydration is key before soaking in hot water. As your body absorbs the heat from the water, it naturally increases perspiration, leading to fluid loss and potential dehydration. By drinking water beforehand, you can help offset this loss and ensure that your body remains adequately hydrated throughout your hot tub session. Proper hydration not only helps regulate your body temperature but also promotes circulation and aids in the elimination of toxins, enhancing the overall therapeutic effects of the hot tub experience.

Prepare a Tasty Treat

Preparing a snack and drink before sinking into your hot tub can level up your relaxation experience! After a dip in the spa, your body may crave replenishment and nourishment. Having a snack readily available allows you to satisfy those post-soak hunger pangs without having to leave the comfort of the hot tub. Pick some refreshing snacks such as fruits, veggies, and nuts, or bring out your favorite snacks. Food makes everything better.

Check the Water Temperature

Before getting in, check the water temperature to ensure it’s within a safe and comfortable range. Hot tubs are designed to provide relaxation and therapeutic benefits, but if the water temperature is too high, it can pose risks such as burns, overheating, and dehydration. Conversely, if the water is too cold, it may not deliver the desired therapeutic effects or could cause discomfort. By taking a moment to verify the water temperature before getting in, you can adjust it to a comfortable level that suits your preferences and avoids any potential hazards. Typically, people try to heat their hot tub between 100°F to 104°F (37°C to 40°C).

This simple precaution helps to promote relaxation, reduces the likelihood of accidents, and allows you to fully enjoy the soothing benefits of your hot tub.

Test the Water Chemistry

Person testing their hot tub's water chemistry with water care test strip.

Use a test strip to check the hot tub water’s pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels. Proper water chemistry ensures that the water is balanced, free from harmful contaminants, and safe for soaking. Imbalanced water chemistry can lead to skin irritation, bacterial growth, and even damage to the hot tub equipment. By regularly testing the water for pH levels, sanitizer concentration, and other chemical balances, you can maintain a clean and healthy environment. This proactive approach not only enhances your hot tub experience by promoting comfort and well-being but also minimizes the need for extensive maintenance and repairs down the line. Prioritizing water chemistry testing is a small investment of time that yields significant rewards in terms of safety, enjoyment, and the longevity of your hot tub investment.

Remove Debris

Leaves, insects, dirt, and other debris can accumulate on the surface of the water and in the tub’s filtration system, potentially leading to clogs and affecting water quality. Take a moment to skim the surface and remove any visible debris. Not only does this practice contribute to a more hygienic environment, but it also helps to prolong the lifespan of the hot tub’s equipment and reduces the need for frequent maintenance.

Set the Mood

A Series Hot Tub Lighting

Creating the right ambiance with soft lighting, soothing music, and perhaps even some aromatic candles or essential oils. By taking the time to set the mood, you can cultivate a serene environment that allows you to fully unwind and escape the stresses of daily life. Some hot tubs come with light and audio systems where you can change the color and music. Pick the color and music that works for you. Another option is turning off the lights and sound, and enjoy the sounds of nature and stargaze.

Remove Jewelry

Remove any jewelry, including rings, necklaces, and bracelets, before getting into the hot tub. Metals can react with the water and cause discoloration or damage to the jewelry.

Use the Restroom

Take a bathroom break before getting into the hot tub to avoid interruptions once you’re in the water. This ensures a more relaxing and uninterrupted soak.

Set a Time Limit

While it’s tempting to linger in the hot tub for hours, it’s important to set a time limit to avoid overheating and dehydration. By establishing a predetermined time limit for your soak, you can ensure that you enjoy the benefits of hydrotherapy without overexposure. Aim for 15 to 30 minutes per session, with breaks in between. Additionally, setting a time limit allows for equal access to the hot tub among multiple users and helps to prevent overcrowding, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone. Remember, moderation is key.

By following these steps before getting in the hot tub, you can ensure a safe, clean, and enjoyable hot tub experience. So, next time you’re ready to indulge in the warmth of your hot tub, remember to take a moment to prepare yourself and the hot tub before jumping right in for the ultimate relaxation session.

Science is still working to provide that end-all-be-all proof that links hydrotherapy and hot tub usage to definitive cures. But more and more studies continue to provide results that hydrotherapy benefits a person’s overall health and well-being.

Studies published in professional, peer-reviewed medical-science journals have consistently identified that hot water immersion and hydromassage produce different effects on various systems of the body. So while researchers have not necessarily been able to determine all of the various mechanisms by which hot tub use improves certain medical conditions and diseases, they have linked their use to improved health outcomes, particularly relief from muscle soreness, bone and joint pain, high blood pressure, and stress.

An ancient practice, hydrotherapy combines using warm water to relieve pain, strengthen muscles, improve balance and increase general fitness. In addition to strengthening muscles, hydrotherapy also helps to mobilize stiff joints, which provides lasting relief from arthritis and muscular injuries.

For centuries, people have used hydrotherapy or some kind of aquatic therapy to help improve their health. Now science is supporting what our ancestors already knew and intuition has been telling us: hydrotherapy benefits your health. With all the advances that have been made in hydrotherapy technology, today people all around the globe can enjoy the benefits of aquatic therapy in the privacy of their own homes or backyard.

With the following insights from experts, you’ll learn how home hydrotherapy benefits relieve sore muscles, increase flexibility, improve heart health, lessen bone and joint pain, and much more to support your overall health.

Improving Heart Health & High Blood Pressure Relieving Stress & Anxiety

Sore Muscle Relief

We’ve all experienced sore muscles at one point or another. Aching or stiff muscles are usually caused by strenuous physical activity, sleeping wrong, or stress. However, for some, the muscle pains they experience may be due to certain medical conditions, such as fibromyalgia, thyroid problems, hypokalemia, and other ailments.

Experts state that one of the best ways people can find sore muscle relief is through hot and cold therapy. This practice uses both warm and cold applications to an injured or strained muscular group to help alleviate and soothe muscle pain and tension without medication.

According to a report on the Effect of Hydrotherapy on The Signs And Symptoms of Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, “The effect of cold application through various mediums has been shown to simulate an analgesic effect, resulting in a decreased perception of pain.” The study went further on to state, warm water immersion has been shown to demonstrate “an increase in blood flow, HR [heart rate], and cardiac output, and a decrease in peripheral resistance. Benefits such as decreased muscle spasm, stiffness, and increased range of motion have also been reported following the application of heat.”

Try this at home: Start by applying a cold compress to the sore area and leave on for 20 minutes. Not only will this help to relieve the pain, but the cold helps to reduce the swelling and inflammation. You can create a cold compress by filling up a bag with ice or with a frozen bag of vegetables. When using a cold compress, wrap a towel around the compress to protect your skin.

According to Breanne Kallonen, Naturopathic Medical Intern, Integrative Medicine, “temperature as well as duration of treatment can change the therapeutic effect of the treatment. For instance, a short hot or short cold will both have an intrinsic stimulative effect on circulation where as a long cold treatment will have a depressive effect. A short cold treatment stimulates the metabolism of the tissues it is applied to. It increases oxygen absorption, increases CO2 excretion, and increases peripheral red and white blood cell count.”

Once you’ve sat with the cold compress over your muscle, use heat to help relax the stiff muscle and soothe the soreness. Again, follow the 20-minute timeframe and use a warm compress, heat lamp, or soak in warm water to help circulate the blood.

Repeat this healing technique throughout the day to further relieve sore muscles and stiffness until the pain has dissipated.

Relieving Bone & Joint Pain

For those who suffer from fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and other joint pain, finding relief from the pain can be hard. In many cases, those who suffer from these ailments have some reprieve by soaking in a warm bath, hot tub, or swim spa.

Hydrotherapy has been shown to benefits all kinds of musculoskeletal conditions including arthritis, fibromyalgia, and back pain. A study by Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases (ARD) found that “hydrotherapy is often recommended to patients with arthritis as water provides a range of benefits, including the reduction of edema, pain relief, and reduced loading on damaged arthritic joints.” By soaking in warm water, the heat helps to reduce the force of gravity which can place additional stress on joints, decrease swelling, and increase blood circulation.

Dr. Murray Grossman of the Grossman Institute adds that the warmth brings fresh circulation which carries healing elements to help soothe and relax the muscles. With relaxation, there is less tightness on the muscles and the mind is able to release any stress (which can hinder healing).

While soaking in the warm water, add some light exercises and gentle stretches to relieve stiff muscle and joints. Ann Vincent, MD, Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic Fibromyalgia Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, noted that patients who soaked in warm water and did mild exercises felt even better after soaking.

A simple exercise to try to help improve musculoskeletal disease and support your overall health and wellness is Tai Chi. This is a Chinese exercise that consists of focused deep breathing and gentle movements. According to the Journal of Exercise Rehabilitation and their study on Water-based Tai Chi, “evidence exists on the efficacy of this intervention with respect to pain diminution of pain and musculoskeletal function improvement in affectations such as low back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia, and in neurological pathologies such as multiple sclerosis.”

Try this at home: Stand against a wall and place a tennis ball (or put two in a sock) between the small of your back. Begin rolling the tennis balls up and down your back by bending and straightening your knees. Apply this while soaking in a hot tub by placing the tennis balls at the bottom or back of the spa, at the small of your back, then roll them against the knotted muscles in your back.

In addition to this, there are low-impact exercises you can do in your hot tub or swim spa to help with muscle and joint pain. Walking or jogging in place is a great way to allow the resistance of the water to improve stability in your back, knees, and other joints. If you have a swim spa, use the swim setting to swim against the current to get exercise.

When it comes to bone and joint pain relief, hydrotherapy along with mild exercises are a great way to help loosen muscles, increase agility and flexibility, and improve overall performance.

Improving Heart Health & High Blood Pressure

Studies have shown hydrotherapy benefits your heart because it reduces high blood pressure by improving circulation and heart rate. In the study, Biophysiologic Effects of Warm Water Immersion, the findings showed, “circulation to deep muscle structures is also increased significantly in water immersion, improving oxygen flow to tissues and potentially facilitating healing of muscle, bone, and joint injuries.”

Another study found warm water immersion resulted in an 11% decrease in systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. The study also found those who soaked in a hot tub for 10 minutes had “increased feelings of well-being and decreased state anxiety.”

Breanne Kallonen goes on to add, “Besides promoting blood flow, hydrotherapy benefits the heart by increasing the removal of toxic products, increasing healing, increasing immunity and promoting relaxation.”

Hydration is another essential, if not the most important, thing you can do for your body. Loss of even a small percent of body weight through sweating can result in dehydration. Symptoms include fatigue, headaches, and diminished mental acuity.

According to a study by NCBI, hydrotherapy benefits the cardiovascular system and hypertension. Although it was previously believed that hydrotherapy would increase your chances of heart failure, research has shown patient’s cardiac function improved during a session of aquatic therapy due to an increase in the amount of blood that ends up getting pumped to the heart.

So how does this work? Immersion in warm water like a hot tub increases your body temperature, causing your body to eliminate toxins and wastes. In addition, as the body temperature rises, so does your heart rate which is similar to the same way it reacts when you’re doing cardio exercise. Because of this, you not only increase circulation but improve your overall health.

Before using aquatic therapy to help with high blood pressure, be sure to talk with your doctor.

Stress & Anxiety Relief

[blockquote text=’“A calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence.” – Dalai Lama’ text_color=” width=” line_height=’undefined’ background_color=” border_color=”]

Stress is a part of our lives and varies depending on what is going on in our world. While some stress might be good for us, pushing us forward to complete tasks and so on, chronic stress can be detrimental to our overall health and well-being. Because of this, taking time each day to unwind and unplug is important to helping us achieve inner strength and live our best healthy lives.

The key to combating stress is to first recognize those moments you’re feeling stressed and identifying your triggers. Once you have a better understanding of what makes you feel stressed out, the more you can eliminate those stressors from your life or, if you’re unable to change your circumstances (which can be the case for many), find ways to reduce stress and release that pent up energy. To give you a better idea of where you fall on the stress level, take this quiz on how stressed out you are.

A great way to relieve tension and learn how to manage stress is through meditation. Meditation is an ancient relaxation technique that focuses on quieting the mind and turning inward to reconnect with yourself.

Meditation takes practice, and the idea of quieting the mind can be frustrating. But the more you incorporate this into your daily habits, the better you’ll be able to relieve stress. There are various methods and forms of meditation. One of our favorite ways is through hydrotherapy, which evidence has shown can be “effective in alleviating mental fatigue.” The warm water helps to release the tension in your body, mind, and soul from the day-to-day chaos.

Try this at home: Take some time to focus on your breathing and clear your mind through meditation. While soaking, close your eyes and focus your attention on your breath. If you’re having a hard time quieting your mind, add a simple mantra or word to your meditation practice. This can be a simple “om” sound or any other of these mantras for meditation.

When it comes to hydrotherapy benefits and sore muscle relief, heart health, and stress reduction, the key factor is to listen to your body. We hope these tips and insights help you find relief, but they are not intended to replace your doctor’s advice. For instance, if you are pregnant we recommend consulting your physician to get the safety recommendations surrounding hot tubbing while pregnant.

Does a Hot Tub Really Work? Hear from Customers.

“Better than Aleve or Tylenol!! Takes away back pain from lifting, aching legs from dancing. The lower back JetPak is unbelievable.” – Gary W.

“I love my Bullfrog Spa. I’m in it every day and it helps my sore muscles & back pain tremendously. I highly recommend a Bullfrog Spa to everyone and I have already recommended it to people.” – Kevin G.

“Best decision ever. We have had our Bullfrog Spa for two months now and have loved it. The Spa has been perfect to slip into at the end of the day to just let the stress and fatigue melt away. It has been a gathering place for my kids to all come together and enjoy time with one another. Getting our Bullfrog spa has really changed our families lifestyle for the best.” – Mike C.

Relaxing in tub

Hydrotherapy is defined as the practice of using warm water immersion, such as soaking in a hot tub or spa, to help treat a wide range of ailments such as high blood pressure, anxiety, aching joints, and sore muscles.

Hydrotherapy for arthritis, in particular, is often recommended by physicians, as it helps alleviate many of the symptoms of arthritis. Many people with active lifestyles take advantage of the many hydrotherapy benefits; it reduces post-workout soreness, aids in muscle recovery, and is often used in physical therapy.

Finally, hydrotherapy is a great stress-reducer and has been shown to relieve anxiety and promote feelings of well-being.

Most people view hot tubs simply as a way to relax or as a great place to enjoy time with friends and family. They are incredible places to socialize and relax. But what if your hot tub could do more for you? What if it could do a lot more?

This concept of healing treatment along with physical and mental therapy is both an ancient art, practiced for centuries, and a modern scientific breakthrough. Hydrotherapy has long been shown to be effective for treating a variety of conditions but it was once difficult to attain. However, with the modern-day advancements in hot tub spa technology, you can enjoy hydrotherapy in your backyard.

Since hydrotherapy can be performed right at home, there are many types and techniques you can try. Here are some of the most popular hydrotherapy techniques.

Watsu

Watsu is a combination of the words “water” and “shiatsu”, meaning you receive a massage while submerged in water. This is commonly done with a masseuse standing in the water with you, but hot tubs are a convenient and more enjoyable way to do this. Hot tub jets target different muscles throughout your body and can be customized with different massage types and power.

Contrast hydrotherapy

Contrast hydrotherapy is the practice of alternating between hot and cold water therapy to relieve your aches and pains. This is commonly done by athletes, who are known to take ice baths after a game, followed by a hot tub, and then repeating.

Water exercise

Exercising in water can help strengthen your joints and muscles. Hot tubs are great tools for water exercise because they are spacious enough without having water that is too deep to stand in.

Mineral baths

A simpler form of hydrotherapy is soaking in a mineral bath. Epsom salt, lavender oil, and jasmine are common additives that enhance your bath or hot tub experience. This helps, relieve stress and calm your nerves.

Hydrotherapy and Hot Tubs

Hydrotherapy can occur in many places including pools, medical centers, and natural hot spring spas. However, one of the most convenient ways to enjoy the benefits of hydrotherapy is with a personal hot tub or spa. With modern spa technology advancements, you can even enjoy a highly customized, targeted massage and that can all happen in the privacy of your backyard.

When selecting a spa specifically for hydrotherapy, look for models that offer highly customizable massaging jet systems. Bullfrog Spas’ patented JetPak Therapy System offers 16 different massages, each bioengineered to target specific muscle groups based on your needs and preferences. JetPaks are modular jetted spa seats that can be interchanged at any time. JetPaks also allows you to easily adjust the intensity of each massage to fit your specific hydromassage needs.

Hydrotherapy for Arthritis

Why is a hydrotherapy spa so good for arthritis? Well, a hot tub provides 3 things that do wonders for your aching joints: warmth, massage, and buoyancy.

Warmth

Soaking in warm water causes your blood vessels to dilate, which increases the flow of nutrients to your muscles to help you heal faster. The warmth also helps your muscles relax and be less stiff.

Massage

Research by Tiffany Field, Ph.D., and director at the University of Miami School of Medicine, found that massage can lead to a significant reduction in pain for those with arthritis in their hands. Massaging jets plus the warmth of a hot tub are a great combination to treat the arthritic pain.

Buoyancy

In addition, being in a hot tub adds buoyancy, or an upward force, to your body. This takes the weight off your joints and bones and allows you to move and exercise more easily.

Bill T., a hot tub owner, said, “For the past year there has not been a week that we have not used [our hot tub], and many weeks I use it every day. I have arthritis in my knees and feet, and the spa has been great in the evenings when it flares up.”

Hydrotherapy for Older Adults

Older adults can also benefit from hydrotherapy. As we age, our bodies become more susceptible to aches, pains, joint soreness, and soft tissue injuries. Lower back pain, arthritis, neck pain, joint pain, and even symptoms of diabetes can all be relieved through the help of hydro massage and hydrotherapy.

In addition to treating your aches and pains, you can also use your hot tub to practice low-impact exercises, such as hot tub yoga and water aerobics. This can be a great option for older adults who are looking to stay active without the risk of high-impact exercises.

Many people suffering from sore muscles, chronic pain, joint pain, or even just everyday aches and pains turn to hydro massage as an all-natural pain relief treatment. Additionally, hydrotherapy massage is a great all-natural alternative to addictive pain killers.

Many young, active adults find that hydro massage allows them to maintain a more active and healthy lifestyle. Hot tubs are a great way to support fitness goals including heavy training for certain sports and even weight loss.

Warm water therapy can help you loosen stiff muscles and joints, reduce swelling, and recover from a tough workout faster. And with further modern advances like the Bullfrog Spas patented JetPak Therapy System, you can create a customized massage to target virtually any muscle group in any part of the body.

In 2007, Men’s Health Magazine* found that hot water immersion can reduce post-workout muscle soreness by up to 40%. This can make a huge difference in your workout goals, whether you’re looking to hit the gym more frequently, finally reach a new PR, or train for a big race. Hydrotherapy is a popular technique in sports medicine and physical therapy, so why not enjoy the same benefits from the comfort of your own home?

Hydrotherapy for Overall Health and Wellness

Regardless of your age and activity level, hydrotherapy can make a meaningful positive impact on your overall health and wellness. With a portable hot tub at home, you can achieve these benefits in the privacy of your backyard. In addition to the many physical benefits, hydro massage allows you to slow down, meditate, and relax your body. Know the safety guidelines around hydrotherapy before you start. If you are pregnant, consult with your doctor on safety recommendations for hot tub use while pregnant.

Believe it or not, hydrotherapy can even be used to treat emotional health. Soaking in warm water can relieve stress, anxiety, and can even solve some of the causes of insomnia. Creating a daily home spa routine can help you to feel more tranquil and connected to your life and surroundings.

The History of Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy has existed in various forms since ancient times and was probably used even before the earliest documented history. Cultures in ancient Egypt, Persia, Greece, the Roman Empire, and China all practiced hydrotherapy in some form or another.

Their traditions varied to some degree. Some bathed in water treated with essential oils, some looked for therapy in communal baths for the public, and some devised ways to bring warm water hydrotherapy to smaller more personalized pools or vessels.

Ancient hydrotherapy was sometimes referred to as “the water cure” and early medical practitioners used this to treat a variety of maladies. Many early hydrotherapists prescribed hydrotherapy as a medicinal treatment for physical ailments, for emotional and mental healing, as a means for promoting overall health and wellness, and as a way to achieve balance across an individual’s physical, mental and spiritual life.

The Path to Modern Hydrotherapy

Tobias Smollet is often credited as the father of modern hydrotherapy massage, due to his 1752 essay On the External Use of Water which promotes the use of pumped water treatment for a variety of diseases.

Still, many technical challenges persisted for several centuries. Pumping water with enough force to achieve a therapeutic massage remained difficult well into the 20th century.

In 1949 Candido Enzo Jacuzzi is credited with designing a whirlpool bath to treat his son’s (Kenny Jacuzzi) rheumatism.* This whirlpool used a small submersible pump to be incorporated into a bathtub or small pool.

This submersible pump and subsequent products marketed by Jacuzzi Brothers Inc. kicked off the modern era of at-home hydrotherapy in jetted tubs and outdoor spas and the Jacuzzi name is tied with some ambiguity to the entire hot tub and hydrotherapy spa product category today.**

We’ve come a long way in our understanding of physiology and human health, yet hydrotherapy is still as highly regarded as ever as a specific medical therapy and way of leading a balanced life. Also sometimes called hydromassage, modern hydrotherapy centers around applying massage therapy techniques through the use of mechanically and thermally enhanced water.

Today, spa hydrotherapy is recognized as a method for relaxation and as an effective treatment for several diseases and ailments. As we discuss below, anyone can benefit from the natural healing qualities of hydrotherapy massage.

Cycling is both a rewarding and demanding form of exercise. To progress meaningfully, you need to focus just as much on recovery as you do training. Your muscles cannot develop if they are pushed too far. Start implementing healthy cycling recovery strategies to bring your performance to the next level.

Healthy Cycling Practices

Developing a thoughtful and healthy cycling training plan will look different for everybody. You will need to customize your practices to your body, lifestyle and fitness level. This is crucial if you want to steadily improve and not injure yourself.

Training Schedule

The first step to creating any cycling program is mapping out a training schedule. It’s all about building your strength, speed and endurance slowly, to meet your body where it’s at. Don’t run out of the gate at full speed, give your muscles a chance to adjust and allow for cycling recovery time.

Warmup, cool down and recovery are the three basic arcs of any good training session. Develop a six-week plan to begin. Your bike, the terrain and your environment can all affect the intensity of your workout. Move from easy to moderate in intervals to level up efficiently.

Nutrition

Fueling your body is obviously one of the most basic measures you can take to ensure a productive workout. Carbohydrates are the most important source of energy you will have during your ride. You should not only eat a decent meal before your session but plan to load up during your ride, as well.

Proper nutrition is a habit, so once you get used to your meal plan, it will become second nature. Short rides require easily digestible foods only 30 minutes before you begin, but longer rides will need a bit more forethought. Plan to eat a meal full of carbs, proteins and fats 3-4 hours before you hit the road.

Muscle Recovery

After your ride, you can’t just hop off and go about your day. You need to pay special attention to your muscles to make sure that they recover. This ensures that they are able to absorb the training and grow stronger. This also prevents injury and muscle damage. There are many ways to go about cycling muscle recovery.

Cycling Muscle Recovery Techniques

Recovery can be one of the most enjoyable parts of your training regimen. It may be counterintuitive, but rest is key to progress. There are many different aspects of recovery you need to attend to, so plan ahead to make your life easier.

Refueling

This one may be obvious, but refueling your body is vital for growing your muscles. You will definitely feel hungry after your ride, so this requirement shouldn’t be hard to meet. Don’t just gobble down anything you find, though; you should be mindful of what type of food you eat.

Don’t wait longer than one hour to get some food in you. Carbs and protein are most important for replacing what you’ve burned through during your workout. Protein is for muscle building, and carbs are for glycogen repletion. However, keep in mind that you should avoid fiber and fat to aid digestion.

Sleeping

Getting enough sleep is difficult for everyone. However, it is especially important after intense exercise for cycling recovery. There are vital healing processes that happen to your body while you sleep. Deep sleep triggers the release of something called the human growth hormone, which repairs your cells and tissues. This is in addition to other benefits, such as immune system recovery and brain power.

The ideal amount of sleep is 7 to 9 hours a night. Avoid caffeine and excessive screen time to make sure you are able to fall asleep when you want to. Don’t be shy to take a nap if you feel tired or did not get enough sleep the night before. Consistency is key for a hygienic sleep routine.

Recovery Riding

Another workout might not be your first instinct when thinking of recovery, but gently moving your muscles can be beneficial. The next time you get on your bike, opt for a light and slow pedal to stretch your legs and get your blood flowing. Consider it flushing your system.

Avoid hills and routes with frequent stops. Keep your legs moving and don’t coast. Don’t take it too seriously and have fun. Recovery rides are just as important for your mental health as your physical health. You can even pick an indoor track.

Stretching

Stretching should be done both before and after your rides. Tight muscles are more easily damaged and can cause stiffness. Flexibility allows room for growth. Stretching also improves your mental state and can ground you after an intense session, reducing cycle recovery time.

There are two kinds of stretches, static and dynamic. Incorporate both into a routine to get maximum benefits. Static stretches entail holding a position, while dynamic stretches are more gentle and necessitate movement.

Using Compression

As a general rule, burning energy produces waste, called metabolic waste. In the human body, that waste is pushed through your circulatory system and can accumulate in your legs because they are the furthest below your heart. The goal is to keep the metabolic waste moving back up to your lymph system to be disposed of.

Specialized compression boots and socks can aid this endeavor. The surrounding pressure on your legs will boost your circulation, and the enhanced blood flow will clear the toxins. The best recovery boots use air inflation to adjust pressure and fit your specific needs.

Massaging

Various forms of massage are proven to improve blood circulation and cycling muscle recovery. They can also help release buildup, blockages and toxins from your tissue. You don’t need to visit a massage therapist to get these benefits; there are methods for achieving these results at home. One excellent example of this is a hot tub with jets.

Bullfrog Spas offers many different types of hot tubs and jet styles to thoroughly massage your sore muscles. The heated water further relaxes your body and mind. There’s no better way to get yourself back to peak condition than a soak in the tub after your ride.

Cycling is a lifestyle, and that includes what you do on your off days. Meaningful rest is necessary for making progress. Invest in therapeutic tools and cyclist recovery strategies to improve your regimen. Your muscles will thank you.

Consider a Hot Tub for Muscle Recovery

“I bike 20 miles and golf on the same day if I’m not working. My Bullfrog Spa helps with pain relief. I can’t say enough about it. It’s a nice relaxer, helps with sleep, and is even good after working all day.” – Daniel H.

“My Bullfrog Spas A5L is the perfect therapeutic partner for my main sports: hockey and cycling. A perflect place to rejuvenate tired muscles after a game or a ride.” – Roydan M.

“I actively race and compete in triathlons, cycling, running, mountain biking, and skiing. For me, a spa is therapeutic. Sure, sometimes it’s for simple relaxation, but most of the time it’s for therapy.” – Mike C.

CrossFit is a high-intensity workout program that pushes you to your limits. When you do that day-in and day-out, your body needs time to recover.

Unfortunately, many athletes forget that rest and recovery techniques are just as important as the workout.

Whether you’re doing CrossFit or using another form of exercise, make sure to balance your workout with time for your body to rest. Here are our best CrossFit recovery strategies.

Create a Schedule

Track how your body is responding to your current routine. Some athletes work out for five days and then take two days off. CrossFit athletes often use a different routine of three days on, one day off, two days on, and one day off to maximize their exercise levels throughout the week.

The important thing is to find a routine that fits your body. Instead of waiting for your body to tell you it needs recovery, you build muscle recovery into your routine.

You may want to build active recovery days into your schedule by planning days to do active recovery workouts at a less intense level to reduce fatigue. Do some stretching exercises or get a massage to keep the blood flow going on your rest days.

Pay Attention to Your Body

crossfit rope

When you’re working out at a high intensity, you need to be aware of your well-being. If you’re tired, you can’t simply assume that it’s because you’re working out too much. It could be from a lack of good sleep, improper nutrition, or a mental imbalance.

You have to know what your body can take and what it can’t. Pushing yourself when you know you should be at the gym is a good thing to keep yourself healthy, but if you’re going beyond your psychological tolerance, you may need to take a couple of steps back to avoid hurting yourself physically.

Only you know when things are out of whack. Don’t ignore your body and what it is telling you.

Take Care of Your Nutrition

Athletes have different dietary needs than the average person, especially when working out at intense levels. You have to ensure that you’re getting adequate nutrition for your cells to recover between workouts outside of your training sessions.

You have to stay hydrated to maintain good blood volume and metabolize lactic acid post workout. Healthy fats, lean proteins, and good carbohydrates are essential to your CrossFit recovery. Speaking with a nutritionist who understands the needs of athletes can help you maximize your diet to make sure you’re getting what you need to take care of your body.

Mobility Exercises

crossfit stretching

When you exercise, the muscle tissues stretch and contract. To maintain good movement and keep the muscle tissue healthy, you need to stretch and use mobility exercises.

  • Foam rollers – used regularly, foam rolling can smash out knots in the muscles and ease tension.
  • Massage – if you’re experiencing trigger points or tightness under challenging areas, a massage therapist can target those areas to help keep your body loose.
  • Stretching – on recovery days, keep your body flexible by stretching exercises.

Get Enough Rest

CrossFit athletes drive to be their best in everything. Getting enough rest is vital to being the best. When you sleep, your cells regenerate. Rest isn’t just for your physical needs. It’s also crucial to your mental health.

It can be challenging to get motivated to get to the gym when you’re tired. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep at night. If you can fit in a power nap after training, it can help your body recover from the session to prepare for the next time.

You need time to clear your mind during the day, too. Give yourself time each day to meditate or chill out. Don’t think you have to be 100% every second of the day.

Use Heat or Cold to Help Muscles Recover

If you have an incredibly sore muscle group after a workout, apply a cold pack, which can help lower inflammation. Heat compresses help boost circulation to your muscles, which lets you metabolize lactic acid buildup after a workout. Using heat or cold helps your muscles recover quicker than expected.

A Hot Tub Soak

Hydrotherapy is for sore muscles after strenuous exercise, but the benefits of a soak in hot water go beyond just easing aching muscles. Warm water increases blood flow from the extremities to your core, which can help your body process the lactic acid buildup produced by exercise.

Hydrotherapy increases the production of hormones that encourage cell regeneration and promote muscle growth. The jets can help you target particular muscles that are sore—soaking in a hot tub after your workout reduces soreness, allowing you to work out again the next day without as much discomfort.

A hot tub soak can also help you relax after a workout before getting back to your busy routine. You extend the benefits of your exercise regimen toward your well-being.

Rest and Recovery Is Just as Important as Exercise

Keep yourself at peak performance levels by balancing your activities between high-intensity workouts, daily life, and rest. Give yourself a break to let your body recover on your way to your goals.

Whether you’re a seasoned skier or just starting to learn, you know what a workout skiing can be. Nothing else quite matches up, so it’s normal to feel a bit sore and need to recover afterward. Planning your post-ski recovery starts long before the first snowfall of the year and continues after the last ski lift is closed. Here are a few tips to get you ready for your best ski season yet.

Prepare Your Entire Body for Skiing

ski recovery workout

You may think of yourself as a “weekend warrior,” not a year-round athlete, but you will be much better off during ski season if you keep your body in shape all year. You use all of your major muscle groups in skiing, so try to work them all ahead of time.

Your legs, of course, get a deep workout on a ski trip, but so do your arms. Starting off with strong quads, hamstrings, glutes, calves, and ankles will help you ski well and prevent injuries. Don’t neglect your core, either, because it helps keep you balanced and upright on the slopes.

You don’t have to spend hours every day at the gym to keep your body limber and strong for winter sports. A regular yoga or Pilates practice will go a long way toward maintaining strength and flexibility, so you don’t feel like you’ve been hit by a bus your first day on the slopes. It can also make you more aware of your positioning and stance, helping to balance out your body so you don’t strain one group of muscles to compensate for a lack of tone elsewhere.

No matter how much you’ve exercised all year, you will likely be sore after a long day on the slopes, especially at the beginning of the season. Even if you feel fine after the first day, be sure to stretch out before going to bed because soreness often takes a couple of days to set in, and you don’t want to wake up with stiff muscles. Now that you’ve (hopefully) prepared for the ski season, there is still more you can do to aid in recovery after skiing.

Invest In a Foam Roller or Massage Stick

If you haven’t tried a foam roller yet, it’s time to change that. A foam roller is just what it sounds like: a cylindrical roller made of dense foam. The idea is to use it to work out tension and increase circulation all over your body. You can also use tennis or golf balls for self-massage on smaller areas of your body, especially for the plantar area on the bottom of your feet.

To use a foam roller on your spine, lie on the floor or a mat, and position the roller horizontally along your lower back. Place your feet flat on the floor with your knees bent. Then, roll yourself back and forth so that the foam roller massages the length of your spine.

To work out tension in your quads, use a similar motion, but this time position your body face-down and place the roller under the front of your thigh. Do one side at a time, adjusting the pressure by partially supporting your weight with your other leg. Go with a massage stick for calf work, or use two tennis balls (tied up in a sock, like two peanuts in a shell).

Relax in a Hot Tub

There are two sides to the “ease sore muscle pain” issue: those who ice and those who heat. Ice can do wonders for post-ski muscle soreness, and you should try it if you can stand it. However, there’s a reason a hot tub is often on prominent display at the coziest chalets. There is nothing more relaxing than sliding into a steamy spa after being out in the snow all day.

The heat from a spa tub increases blood flow and can promote healing and relaxation. In addition to the benefits of hot water, you can get even more relief from customized water jet massage options.

Imagine soaking in a relaxing spa and then enjoying massaging water jets on just the right areas where your back is sore. Sound like something you need in your life? Check out Bullfrog Spas’ lineup of therapeutic spas today.

Hot Tubs Basics – What is a Hot Tub or Spa?

There are countless companies offering all types of hot tubs or spas but what is a hot tub? To a person looking to buy a spa or hot tub, it can all seem a little overwhelming and confusing trying to find the right hot tub for you. We want to help clarify. We have broken down what a hot tub is, the basics, and the types of hot tubs the industry has to offer.

Let’s start with hot tub basics. So what is a hot tub and isn’t a hot tub. The term hot tub is also sometimes interchangeable with spa or jacuzzi.

How to use a hot tub? Hot tubs are used primarily for relaxation and the treatment of physical ailments. Hydrotherapy is used to improve both physical and mental health. Warm water benefits the body in many ways including easing arthritis pain, loosening tight muscles, and increasing circulation, just to name a few.

Now that we know the benefits of a hot tub, we will go over what the parts are that make up a hot tub.

What Components Make Up a Hot Tub?

As with most complicated items, there are a lot of parts used to build a hot tub, and all work in tandem to create your spa experience. For instance, at Bullfrog Spas, each spa begins with an ABS composite base, which holds the entire frame together.

bullfrogspas enduraframe

The Shell

The shell is the inside of your spa which is exposed to the water. These are usually made of vinyl, acrylic, fiberglass, or—for in-ground models—poured gunite. For the sake of this article, we are going to stick with the Bullfrog Spas model, which is created with acrylic, and molded to the frame with high heat machinery.

m7 shell

The Cabinet

The cabinet is the exterior walls of your spa or hot tub. It is typically made from wood, metal, plastic, or—once again, in the case of in-ground models—concrete. Your Bullfrog model is made from high-quality EternaWood, which is both weather and UV-resistant, on top of water-friendly.

STIL Series cabinet

The Jets

This is an essential addition to your hot tub because it’s the one feature that differentiates your spa from a regular pool or a bathtub. The jets pull air through the system, then release water in streams through the entire spa.

Jets can often be adjusted for strength and direction, but in most spas, Jets remain stationary, as they are drilled and plumbed directly into the shell of the hot tub. The only exception to this rule is the Bullfrog Spas patented JetPak Therapy System, which allows each different type of jet type to be personally chosen by each user and placed in the spa individually, and which can easily be changed with a quick and simple process.

personalized jetpaks

The Pump

The pump moves water through the plumbing system, to the filter, where it is cleaned and re-distributed through the spa. One side pumps with a pulling action, while the other side pushes the water out through the jets, which is what creates the pressurized streams that hot tubs are known for.

The Filter

The filter cleans the water as it comes in through the pump, and infuses it with the mild chemicals of your choosing in order to keep your spa water clear and clean. It’s usually made from polyester or paper, which catches pollutants, skin oils, dust, and other substances which may come in contact with your water.

The Control System

Your controller is how you turn the jets on and off, set the strength of the jets, as well as stimulate the pump to activate. Sometimes you can also control other aspects of your spa, such as optional audio or other systems.

Hot Tub Control Panel

Hot Tub Types – Portable Hot Tub vs. Custom Spa

Portable Spas

Portable spa is a broad and potentially confusing term due to the large differences in portable spa size and actual portability.

Portable hot tubs or portable spas generally include a range of spas anywhere from small inflatable units that can be packed up and put away when not in use, to large 8 to 10 person solid material hot tubs.

In more simple terms, a portable hot tub is defined as a spa that is self-contained, meaning everything needed to operate the spa is contained within the spa itself.

It also has to be portable meaning you could move the spa if needed unlike a stationary hot tub built into a swimming pool.

Portable spas can be built from a variety of materials including:

  • acrylic
  • fiberglass
  • polyethylene and other plastics
  • inflated latex or vinyl

Most quality portable spas today are built with an acrylic shell mounted to a support structure of ABS, metal, or wood.

In general, portable hot tubs are less expensive than equally sized custom spas and they are quick and easy to install. Portable spas have become extremely popular with homeowners looking for great hydrotherapy without a construction project.

Another advantage of portable spas is that they are molded into ergonomic shapes with well-defined and comfortable seats.

Many premium portable spas, especially Bullfrog Spas, offer an assortment of massaging jets. These jets are aligned within the spa to generate a specific massage sensation for each seat.

Bullfrog’s JetPak Therapy System allows you to completely customize and personalize these massages to suit your preferences.

Another important type of hot tub to know about are 110V spas, commonly referred to as plug and play hot tubs. These spas are generally smaller and less therapeutic because they only have one pump to power all the jets, but the advantage is you can plug them into a normal outlet.

Custom Spas

Custom Hot Tub

The second type of spas or hot tubs are called custom spas or in-ground spas. Custom spas are generally constructed from a permanent hard material and are designed to suit your specific tastes.

As the name infers, in-ground spas are actually a type of custom spa that is set into the ground, with the top of the spa located at or near ground level.

Some in-ground spas are actually portable spas lowered into a vault to achieve a custom look but retain the benefits of customizable hydrotherapy and comfort that portable spas provide.

Custom spas can be built from a variety of materials including:

  • gunite
  • concrete
  • fiberglass
  • stainless steel
  • copper
  • tile

A custom in-ground spa can be a very attractive addition to a backyard and can be customized to become part of your backyard landscape.

In-ground spas also have the added benefit of being extremely quiet as all of the mechanical equipment needed to run the hot tub can be installed away from the bathing area.

The downside of a custom in-ground spa is that they are usually expensive and time-consuming to install. They are made of hard permanent materials and surfaces so they can also become outdated and difficult to modify.

However, if you have the time and money available to have an in-ground model installed, you will likely be pleased with the aesthetics and durability.

Swim Spas

Relatively new, swim spas are portable hot tubs that are large enough to swim in. Swim spas generally feature a swim lane with a special swim jet that provides a current to swim against. This is a great training tool for swimmers, triathletes, or for those looking for a fun way to exercise at home. Swim spas also are popular for families as a less expensive option than a swimming pool with the added benefit of hot tub therapy jets.

So, you’ve finally rewarded yourself and purchased a hot tub. The hot water, jet massages, and tranquil mood lighting will get you in a peaceful state of mind and de-stress your achy body time and time again. Now you can relax and rejuvenate in your backyard anytime you need a little self-care.

You’ve browsed your hot tub options (such as color choices, water features, and audio systems) and decided what you’d love to include, but only have one question, “What is a hot tub cover lifter?”

Bullfrog Spas is your expert on all things hot tub. Here are the basics, including why you should consider an easy lift spa cover, the different types that are available, and how to install one.

What Is a Hot Tub Cover Lifter?

A hot tub cover lifter (also called an easy lift spa cover) is a mechanism for helping you quickly and easily remove and replace your hot tub cover. The lifter fits onto the side of your hot tub (or underneath) and connects to the cover. The lifter is designed to work with hot tub covers that fold in the middle.

To make a hot tub cover lifter work, you simply fold the cover back on top of the lifter bar, lift a few inches at the fold and push gently, and the cover will lift off of the hot tub. Some lifters hold your cover off the side of your hot tub and some hold your cover upright, creating a privacy wall.

Do I Need an Easy Lift Spa Cover?

The short answer is no; you don’t necessarily need an easy lift spa cover. However, there are a few reasons you might really want one.

  • While hot tub covers aren’t heavy, they are a bit bulky and can be burdensome to remove and put back on without assistance. This is especially true if you are an older adult, have limited mobility, or are trying to do it on your own.
  • If it has rained or snowed, having a lifter lets you remove the cover without getting yourself soaked from ice and water running off the cover and onto you.
  • Spa covers can be easily damaged when handled without care. They should not be put on the ground, even for just a moment, as this can damage the surface, insulation, or frame.
  • You may want added privacy while in your hot tub. Many lifters hold the cover-up vertically, preventing outsiders from viewing in.

The choice is up to you. Do these reasons justify getting a spa cover lifter? For most people, the answer is yes.

Types of Spa Cover Lifters

CoverLift for M Series

There is a type of spa cover lifter for every need. Here are just a few of the options available for hot tub owners.

Hot Tub Cover Shelf: The most cost-effective cover lifter is basically a shelf that mounts to the side of your hot tub. To use, simply fold your cover and slide it onto the shelf. There are a couple of downsides to a hot tub cover shelf, though. They take up quite a bit of space and don’t actually help you lift, remove, or replace your cover.

Manual Pivot: For this type of lifter, a long metal bar goes over the middle of your cover with each end mounted to your spa. Once you fold your cover in half over the bar, you can lift up the cover and push it back where it hangs vertically.

Hydraulic: This lifter is operated the same way as a manual pivot lifter, but because it has hydraulic pistons incorporated into the lifter bars, your cover can be removed with one hand since the lifter is carrying all the weight.

Gliding: To use a gliding lifter, simply lift, glide, and fold away your cover. It is a great option if your hot tub is located in a tight space because it doesn’t require much clearance.

Automatic: An automatic hot tub cover lifter uses a motor to do all the work of moving your cover, which is especially useful for large or bulky sizes.

There are also two different ways that cover lifters can attach to your hot tub:

Deck Mount: The two supports for the lifter are drilled into the sides of the hot tub. This style only works on square or rectangle-shaped spas.

Freestyle or Understyle: The base system slides under the spa and uses the spa’s weight for support.

How Much Room Do You Need for a Hot Tub Cover Lifter?

The clearance you need for a hot tub cover lifter depends on the size of the cover and the type of cover lifter you choose. Hot tub shelf covers can require up to 4 feet of clearance, typical folding cover lifters require about 2 feet of clearance, gliding lifters require 14” of clearance on the back of the spa, and some upright cover lifters only require 7” of clearance. As for the sides of the hot tub, cover lifters generally need only 3” of space.

How Do You Use a Hot Tub Cover Lifter?

To use a hot tub cover lifter, you must first install it. Hot tub cover lifter installation isn’t difficult, but it does require a few tools and some basic know-how.

Of course, you should follow all instructions included with your swim spa cover lifter, but here are some general instructions:

  • If you have a traditional lifter that must be mounted to the back and/or side of the hot tub, you will need to measure, mark, and drill guide holes for the lifter brackets.
  • Once the brackets are installed, the slider and pivot arms need to be attached to each other and placed into the brackets.
  • Then, lay the center bar across the middle of your cover and insert each end into the support arms.
  • Fasten all the sections together.
  • If you have an automatic or smart cover lifter, speak to a Bullfrog Spas expert for hot tub cover lifter installation recommendations.

To use your hot tub cover lifter, you’ll either manually fold the cover and push the crossbar up and out of the way, or you’ll press a button on the control panel, a remote control, or your smartphone for the cover to be removed and replaced automatically.
